Weight Loss Progress and Unexpected Surprise

Well... This week I haven't been following through with the working out as I would have liked.  (Honesty is best, right?)  I am still walking and dieting, but this week has been extremely hectic (and I don't think I have fully recovered from just going).

The exciting thing is I can tell I am still shrinking (as I like to call it).  Jeans and clothes are starting to fit well again!  The biggest shock to me was a bracelet that had been somewhat tight on me fits much better.

While I was 9 months pregnant, Drew and I celebrated our 4th Wedding Anniversary.  Drew surprised me with a Pandora Bracelet consisting of a few charms that symbolized where we met, and the upcoming birth of Tristan (a very very sweet and unexpected gift).  The bracelet however barely fit...  After I gave birth to Tristan I wore it more and it started to fit better, however; Drew and I discussed exchanging the bracelet-part for a larger size (no one really likes to think about that!).

I don't think I have worn the bracelet in 2 weeks, and yesterday marked 7 years since Drew asked me to be his girlfriend (I know cheesy, but we still remember).  The past couple of years we have reminisced about the date, but haven't "celebrated."  Drew, being the sweetheart he is; came home with all kinds of gifts last night :).  Flowers, wine, cheesecake (not helping), and a small box from Kay's!  I opened the box and there were three more charms to add to my bracelet.  Drew mentioned, as he added the charms, that the jewelry store would exchange the bracelet for a larger size...   I was thinking there was no way I was getting that thing on my wrist with three additional charms!  Surprise, surprise, it not only fit it was a little loose :).  This really made my night, and now I don't have to exchange anything!

The way your body is after having a baby is not always great (some people get lucky, but not me).  You are left with the additional hormones, and the thought of am I ever going to go back to normal.  My thoughts now after 2 months is yes!  Things will go back to normal; it may be a slow process and a new normal, but it will happen.

It amazes me how much I have accomplished in the past two months!  I went from not being able to walk without help, not being able to bend over, nor lift my child.  I can now run, workout, move furniture/rugs (did this all day yesterday), and carry my growing baby.  These things are small, but all the same, accomplishments.  Our bodies heal so quickly and that is amazing :).

Go State and The Cutest Tailgate

Whew...  Have Tristan and I slowed down yet? Nope, and we are loving every minute :).

One of the many great things about having a baby is all of the first you get to experience with them.  I feel like Drew and I have been piling on all of the first with Tristan, but when the opportunity presents itself why not?  So when Kati had organized a girl's weekend I was very excited about tailgating and spending time with friends and my sister.  I asked Kati if she cared if I brought Tristan with me, and she didn't seem to mind so we started to put the planning into action.

Originally when we talked about heading up to Starkville, Drew was going to come too, mainly to help with Tristan; and also to try to get together with some of his friends.  Well, with Drew's work schedule at this time it didn't exactly pan out.  I still really wanted to go, but I was very nervous about traveling with a 2 month old by myself.  Surprisingly it wasn't that bad.  Tristan slept most of the way and only cried twice (both times there was nowhere for me to pull over so I had to let him cry.  I felt like an awful mother!).  The crying only lasted maybe 10 minutes before he fell back asleep, but in mother years it felt like an hour!

When we arrived in Starkville, I met up with my sister and my friend Allison.  We packed up everything we were bringing to the tailgate, and I made sure all of baby's needs were met.  I have to say that having a stroller helps so much when you are trying to carry stuff to the tents.  After dropping the big stuff off, moving my car to a safe area, and finally walking back to the tailgate we were able to relax, eat, and drink!

Kati had taken care of ordering the food from The Little Dooey (delish!), and had made the cutest pieces for the game Corn Hole.  Kati is extremely crafty :).  See how she did it here.

I decided not to buy a ticket for the game, (sorry dawgs) because I didn't think it was a great idea to bring a baby into the stadium (too much noise).  Tristan seemed to really enjoy tailgating though!  He didn't mind the cowbells or the noise as long as someone was holding him.  He liked to watch the fireworks go off every time we scored (according to the fireworks we were winning), and he seemed to be very stimulated by the entire event.  He barely slept (although the pictures tell a different story) so when I brought him back to Erin's apartment he slept 7hours straight through the night!

Sunday we went to the Veranda for Lunch (one of my favorites!), and then Tristan and I headed home.  It was a short trip, but very enjoyable!

Overall the tailgate seemed pretty successful, and I think it can become a family event/tradition that we can carry on through the years!  I picture one day (far down the road) Drew and I visiting Tristan at MSU.  We will still be lugging the tent, table, etc (maybe we will have a golf cart by then? please Drew! J/K) and having a great time watching our team play their hearts out or just being there to support them.

Here are some pictures from the tailgate-  I failed to take any!  I have officially learned my lesson but please enjoy the few that were taken. Sweet boy is sound asleep in each of the pictures :)

Finally a picture awake!  Thank you Lauren :).

Update on Tristan: Tristan rolled for the first time at 9weeks old on September 19th!  I missed it :(, but I got to see him roll last night!  He is pretty amazing!

Have a great upcoming weekend! ~ Tina V

Tristan's First Flight

I have to do a little bit of bragging on my son :).  A little over a week ago we hopped on a plane and headed to Newport, RI for Billy and Katharine's wedding.  We were so excited to be going to Newport, but there were quite a few people that were surprised we were bringing our 7week old on a plane!  Well my 7week old did not make a peep other then giggling.

Going by the advice of our pediatrician we fed Tristan at take-off and when we landed.  The swalling helps with their ears and keeps them from feeling bad.  I did bring infant tylenol with me just encase, but it is still unopened :).

The Flight Attendant gave Tristan a certificate for his first plane ride that we can put in his baby book, and we took some cute pictures of him.

Strapped in ready for take off! J/K he sat in our laps; cute photo though!

 Tristan's First Flight!

I like flying Mommy!

We flew into Providence and picked up our rental car (a KIA Soul very fun to drive) and headed to the house in Newport that Drew's parents and Uncle Walt rented.  The house was very quaint and had a lot of character with a Zen garden, claw foot tube, and industrial ladders to a loft.  The good thing is that it was large enough to accommodate all 12 of us.

Drew's family is really amazing.  From the very beginning that I met them they all made me feel like I was part of the family.  They do a very good job at getting everyone together and with people being spread out in Massachusetts, Virgina Beach, Florida, Chicago, Minnesota, and all the way to California that takes a lot of planning :).

Friday we headed to the beach to check out where Billy and Katharine were tying the knot!  Tristan got to experience his first time on the beach (Even though we live so close to one, with the heat we haven't taken him!)  The location was beautiful.  We spent time catching up with all of the cousins and then drove along the cliff walk to check out how the other half lives!  Pretty amazing, I would not mind having one of the smaller sailboats or even the carriage house :).

Mommy helping me walk in the sand!
Daddy and I enjoying a picnic!

Friday night the rehearsal dinner was held at the Brick Alley Pub.  The food was amazing and I tried my first raw oyster (surprisingly I really liked it).  After the rehearsal dinner Tristan went home with his Gramma and Grampy, and gave his Mommy and Daddy a chance to go out without him.  He was definitely in the back of my mind the entire night, but we had a great time dancing and catching up with everyone.

The next day Drew was not feeling great so we just took it easy and watched MSU beat Auburn!  Tristan played with Xavier (Drew's cousin Pat and his wife Crystal's son).  It was the cutest thing Tristan would smile at him, and Xavier would share his cars and other toys with Tristan.

That evening we went back down to 1st Beach (Easton Beach) for the Wedding.  It was a beautiful ceremony.  The Rehearsal was held at the Rotunda, and they even had the Carousel available for the wedding guest to ride on.  I attempted to take Tristan, but he had mixed feelings on whether or not he enjoyed it.  I did get a cute photo opp though.  Tristan loved dancing and would bounce to the music.  We had a wonderful time and we were so happy that we were able to be there on such a special day :).

Tristan will not remember our trip, but I am glad Drew and I keep a blog that we will be able to share with him all of the little adventures we enjoyed together.  I love this kid so much his smile keeps me going.  Yesterday he had his two-month shots.  I think I took it harder then he did!  He is such a blessing!

Swimming with Daddy!  At 9 weeks old I weigh 13lbs 1oz and am 23 1/2in long!

Have a great week~ Tina V

Workout Progress!

The first couple of days of exercise has gone pretty well!  We started Jillian Michaels on Monday and only missed one day.  Thursday we decided to take a break from the healthy home cooked meals and headed to Louis and Louis to have dinner.  I chose the Panne Chicken (Baked chicken breast in lemon butter with capers!  Um um) and the house salad.  I did avoid the huge mound of mashed potatoes, but I gave into one olive roll.  When I got home I had half a glass of Moscato wine, and said I am too tired and full to exercise lets get up at 5 am to do the video.  Well I woke up at 4 for Tristan's feeding and by 5am all I wanted to do was go back to bed...

Friday evening my mom and I took Tristan and Sadie girl on a walk (to somewhat make up for the missed day).  Two of our neighbor's dogs came running out toward Sadie (she doesn't do to well in that situation.)  I got tied up in her leash and fell on my knee ripping my dress :(.  The neighbors felt so bad, but we were all pretty okay.  I can't get mad, because my dog Rudy leaves my yard at least once a month (even when we are standing in the back with him!).  My knee was pretty busted up, and I started to think about the push-ups I had to do for level 1.  My suggestion was to go ahead and try out level 2!  Well we made it through okay, and decided that we can start doing level 2 from know on until we move up to level 3!

This morning, (with the help of spanx) I tried on a pair of size 8 jeans...  They fit!!  I am slowly getting back to normal.  Hopefully soon I will be back in a size 6 or even better 4 ;).  I will keep you posted!

Tristan's Trip

Mommy finally uploaded the pictures so please enjoy my first road trip :).

On August 3rd we headed out to start my first road trip!  I was just under 3 weeks old (I mean who does this craziness?)   Mommy got the okay from both her doctor and my doctor and we headed out so I could meet my great-grandparents and other family that we do not get to see too often because we live so far apart.

Our first stop was Atlanta at my Uncle Rin, Aunt Lauren, and cousin Jeremiah's new house!  Jeremiah arrived to this world after I came to visit, but I will get to meet him soon.  They have three small dogs that liked me and licked me a lot.  Auntie Lauren held me and would rock me in her large chair.  She also took a lot of pictures as she knows how to get my good side!

Our next stop was to Boones Mill, VA to visit my Great-Grandma Hardt!  Great-Grandma lives in the mountains!  I had to get adjusted to my ears popping, but Mommy would feed me or give me my bippy to suck on (she always knows how to make me feel better).  I loved Grandma holding me and rocking me- it was so special.  We made sure to give her some pictures so she can look at me often and think of me.

From VA we headed to Altoona, PA.  My other Great-Grandparents live there.  I am going to call them Gaga and Pappy.  I got to sit out on my Gaga's swing and look at all of her pretty flowers.  My Mommy loved to play out in the yard when she was little.  Daddy helped me take my first steps in the grass and it was the softest grass I have ever felt.  I met some of my Mommy's Aunts, Uncles and Cousin Brent.  I had such a good time!

We continued to travel north to CT to see my daddy's Grandma Mac and Auntie Jill.  I heard stories about my Grandma when she was little growing up with her 5 sisters!  I got to take pictures with them, and I know my Mommy and Daddy will treasure the photo's of the important people in their lives holding me!

I had been anticipating meeting my Gramma and Grampy and I finally got to meet them when we went to Cape Cod!  It was everything I expected and more.  I know they love me so much, and so does their dog Roscoe.  Roscoe did not want to leave my side and even slept outside our door while we were there.  He was very protective of me.  While in Cape Cod I met my Daddy's Uncle Walt who just did an amazing job in the Falmouth Race.  We went to a Falmouth Race picnic and I also got to meet a lot of Gramma and Grampy's Cape Cod friends.  Grampy is very social.  I can't wait until they move by me so I (and Rudy) can see them every day!  I really enjoyed Cape Cod and am hoping next year I will be able to play at the beach :).

As we traveled south again we stopped in Philadelphia, PA.  My Mommy's cousin Heather and her family live there.  I played with my cousins Owen and Gabe and had a really great time.  Heather is a very good cook.  Next time we go to visit maybe I will be able to enjoy the food.  The next day we were on a time crunch, but we visited the Liberty Bell before we left and headed back to Great-Grandma's in Virginia!

After traveling back through Atlanta again, we went to Philadelphia, Mississippi so that Mommy and I could go to Mindi and baby Everett's Baby Shower (baby Everett will be here next Tuesday, and I can't wait to meet him).  We stayed with our friends Stephanie, Michael and baby Madison.  Here is Madison and I playing on the chair.  She is the first other baby I have ever met, and I know we will be great friends!

I had such a great time, and Mommy and Daddy say I am so easy to travel with and the sweetest baby:).

30 Day Shred

I won't share this particular post by email and Facebook mainly because it doesn't have anything to do with Tristan other then shedding the baby weight, but I felt this was a good way to hold myself accountable.

Today marks the first day of incorporating exercise back into my life.  I have those last 12-15lbs to loose to get back to my pre-baby weight (depending upon how the scale feels that day).  I know this is the toughest part.  In reality I would like to loose even more, but I will start my goals small to begin with.

Drew, my mom, and I did the first day of the 30 day shred :).  I was proud of myself, because I made it through the first video.  I decided I would update once a week to let you all know how I am making it through.  Right now I am proud of myself, but at the same time am I am wondering if I can actually do it.

I can't wait to be able to wear some of my clothes I miss wearing, and also just to accomplish such a weight lose.  I gained 47lbs with my son (this was a lot more then I intended to gain, but we won't go into that).  I heard the "are you sure you don't have twins in there?"  more often then I would have liked, but with my baby being 10lbs at birth I guess I could have had two 5lb babies.  Tristan's 10lb weight kicked off the weight lose and when I left the hospital I was already down 20lbs.  Within the next 2 weeks I dropped another 10 easily, but then I hit this wall and the last little bit I have lost have been tough.  So it was time to add in the cardio and the low carb :).  Wish me luck and encouragement!

Mommy Adventures

Hi!  It has been a while since I last posted, but I found some time to write about a few things that have been happening since the little one has arrived.

First of all my husband and I are a little crazy and decided to take our newborn at three weeks old on a 2000 mile hike along the east coast!  Tristan has written a blog about it; I just have not downloaded the pictures yet.  I promise to post it soon.  I know you are probably thinking we are terrible parents, but we all had a wonderful time and Tristan has been to more states then most adults (this is my reasoning behind it).  In reality most of our extended family live that far away from us, and we really wanted our grandparents, aunts and uncles to get to meet him!

What I wanted to write about today is how we are all adapting to our new lives together.  It is strange how it happens you think for 9 months (or the minute you find out) about the anticipation of having the baby and taking care of him.  Life consists of getting the nursery ready (he hasn't slept in there yet), all of the clothes washed, house baby proofed, dogs out of your bed, and then he arrives.  Life is not the same, but at the same time you can not imagine life without him.

Your conversations change from what you did that weekend, or what trip you have planned, or the cute dress you just bought to "Yes, my child just peed on my toothbrush as I was drying him off on the counter..."  That really did happen, fortunately I had already brushed my teeth that morning.  You will discuss breastfeeding and what you went through during the labor without thinking about the people that don't want to hear about it (sorry).  I think you want to share with the world because it is such a life changing and major experience.  When I really think about it I haven't been through anything more life changing or wonderful.  Everyone's story is different, but it really does almost create a "mommy bond".  The woman in the check out line that gives you that encouraging smile as your child is screaming; she understands.

With this being my first week back at work; I am learning to juggle having a career and being a mommy.  Today for instance, I learned that it is better to have bathtime, the bottles prepared, and the car loaded up the night before.  If not you will end up leaving at least 20 minutes late unless you have terrible weather to drive through, then it will end up being more like 40 minutes late.

As I am loading the car up this morning (you have as much stuff packed as you would bring on a trip); I just then realize how bad it is raining.  I also realize that all of my umbrellas are in the car (so much for spending the 10 minutes I did on blow-drying my hair).  I run out to the car grab an umbrella and then start the loading process.  I get back out to the car during the thunderstorm (torrential downpour and I can't see three feet in front of me) and realize I did not grab my keys (darn it my car automatically re-locks after a few minutes, Ugh).  Back to the house grab the keys, first load is in.  Close the car so that the inside doesn't get wet, grab another load forgot the keys again...  Basically, finish loading the car with the necessary stuff and then grab Tristan.  We make it into the car and head down to our destination.  The roads are so wet and the visibility is awful, I then begin the "I have a baby in my car meaning I need to drive extra slow with the flashers on."  I start yelling at anyone that feels it necessary to slam on breaks during the storm and tell them I have a baby in the car.  "Oh goodness, I have become the crazy hormonal mother!"  Well needless to say we made it safe and sound and baby slept through the entire thing :).

The exciting thing about this time is how much Tristan is changing and learning.  It seems like he discovers something new everyday.  He is really smiling and interacting now.  He will try to have a conversation with you, and smiles and giggles a lot.  We went to the Bass Pro Shop on Friday to visit Tara's husband Craig.  As soon as we walk into the store Tristan's face lights up.  He is smiling and taking everything in (uh-oh we have a little out-doors-man on our hands).  His favorite part was looking at the fish.  Tristan has never seen fish before and he would smile and giggle and then hide his head in my shoulder.  I love how everything is a new experience for him.  You really do have such an effect on your own children.  What you expose them to and teach them does play a part in who they will become.  I see this just with Tristan's reaction to things.  I am so proud of my little man so far, and I am excited to see him grow up.  I just need to keep my self in check :).

Tristan and I looking at the fish (please excuse how I look this is after 6 hours in the car).
Playtime with Daddy!

We have many exciting things happening between now and Christmas, and hopefully they will make for interesting blog posts.  Tristan is going on his first plane ride on Thursday for Billy and Katharine's wedding in Newport, RI.  Congrats to you both early!  I love seeing two people get married that truly discover the meaning of love and will make great parents one day (no pressure).  Also congratulations to my sister Lauren and my brother-in-law Rin on their brand new baby Jeremiah David!  He is a beautiful baby and a wonderful addition to the family!  Hopefully, we can get the cousins together soon.

 Jeremiah David Born 8/29/12 5lbs 10oz!

Have a wonderful and hopefully dry day!- Tina
